Purpose of Unit Standard

The purpose of learning is to ensure that the driver can operate the mechanisms safely and according to legal, organizational and manufacturer specifications. This will improve the learner's career flexibility and will ensure accidents and injuries are prevented, improving the compliance, success and profitability of road transport service delivery.

Course Outcomes
  • Describe mechanical operation of equipment according to given specifications.
  • Describe different attachments: safety gates/platform extensions and ramps/roll stops/rollers/remotes.
  • Identify the following components: steel and hydraulic wire cables/power packs/platforms.
  • Lifting capacities.
  • Identify and categorize loads accurately.
  • Different freight types.

  • 2 Days Training.
  • Theory conducted in a classroom environment with practical demonstrations using company specific procedures.
Vehicle
  • Vehicle needed for practicals.
Certification
  • A certificate of competence is issued
